The Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC/M23) has once again accused the FARDC (Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo) of targeting civilians and criticized MONUSCO (United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo) for its perceived inaction.
On February 10, 2025, AFC/M23 released a statement condemning the FARDC and its allies for alleged severe human rights abuses against the population of Bukavu, including killings and sexual violence.
AFC/M23 stated that it would take measures to protect civilians if these actions were not halted. The group also denied any involvement in the massacre at Munzenze prison and called on MONUSCO to stop spreading misinformation aimed at misleading the public. AFC/M23 emphasized that the safety of civilians is a top priority and urged displaced people to return to their homes without fear.
The group reiterated its commitment to defending civilian populations and called for an end to the violence and propaganda that destabilize the region.
