A new study reveals that single women and girls tend to be happier with their sexual experiences compared to single men. This is attributed to societal norms that prioritize men’s desires in sexual relationships, often leaving women less satisfied with their sexual lives.
Conducted by Elaine Hoan and Geoff MacDonald from the University of Toronto in Canada, the study was published in the journal *Social Psychological and Personality Science* on December 11, 2024. It analyzed data from 5,941 participants across 10 different studies conducted between 2020 and 2023. Participants ranged in age from 18 to 75, with an average age of 31.7.
The study explains that single women and girls experience greater happiness in their sexual lives because they have more freedom and autonomy to focus on their own desires, choosing what pleases them without the pressure or responsibility of satisfying a partner. This allows them to engage in sexual activities at their preferred times and on their own terms.
Overall, the research found that single women tend to be happier than single men in this regard. It highlighted that men’s satisfaction often depends on the person they are in a committed relationship with, whereas women’s satisfaction is more self-directed
Additionally, the study noted that men tend to derive greater happiness from sexual activities when they are in love, unlike women. This is because men’s desires are often prioritized in sexual relationships, which can lead to women sometimes engaging in sexual activities without fully enjoying them, simply to please their partners.
